New Russian Drama Festival (NRDF) in Austin, Texas
Good music, good food, good people and good theatre = a great visit to Austin, Texas…a town I hope to return to again and again. This year’s NRDF featured a new production of I AM THE MACHINE GUNNER and my adaptation of MARTIAL ARTS, both by Yurii Strike Klavdiev. On opening night of the fest, I presented ATOM-SMASHING PLAYWRIGHT, a brief essay on Klavdiev’s works and then chatted with John Freedman about our work with Klavdiev.
A couple of readings followed the next day: TRASH (no relation to my play of the same title) by Misha Durnenkov and A POLITICAL PLAY by Lasha Bugadze, a Georgian playwright. We did another discussion after the shows that night (which were streamed live on New Play TV) where John and I were joined by Maria Kroupnik and Pavel Shishin.
Lots of fine hospitality by Pam Friday, Marisa, and many other new friends in Austin. Thanks to Graham Schmidt and Breaking String Theatre for making it all happen. I look forward to seeing you all again soon.
