It was a good Gumbo.
Gumbo ended last weekend with two incredible performances…that I missed. Sadly I departed Gumbo for another event a thousand miles away, but I could still taste the spice.
The two weeks centered around the reading of 19 new plays investigating new discoveries in the field of neurobiology. Yep. It was that nerdy. And absolutely fantastic!
We also presented The Beholder’s Share in six workshop performances, it evolved dramatically over the two weeks, with new costumes for weekend two (dressing the beholders, not the artists) and an inverted script. Everyone took it all in stride and the show grew in our imagination.
The works of art created by Suzanne gave the space a sacred feel, a silver or gold altar and stained glass windows made from homemade paper.
There were also a dozen other artists showing work in the lobby and some fun nights of music including a Zaireeka party (cross that off the bucket list).
Sometimes when in the middle of something it looses perspective, but in retrospect we can realize what amazing things a few dedicated people can make happen. Much love to my compatriots in Generous Company for making another great Gumbo in 2013.
