Generous Company’s WordBRIDGE

  • WordBRIDGE Artistic Director, 2006 – 2012
                • Producing, in collaboration with Managing Director Michael Vandercook, a play development laboratory where pre-professional playwrights engage their script and the rehearsal process through conversations with a variety of resource artists and intensive work with professional, generous theatre artists from around the world.
                  • During their residency, playwrights spend three hours a day in rehearsal with their creative team and are offered the opportunity to present initial and final readings of their work to the entire company.

    • Providing emerging playwrights with and  inspiring and invigorating experience by matching them and their scripts with teams of professional dramaturgs, directors, actors and designers; and offering a wide array of interdisciplinary resources, such as behavioral scientists, storytellers, and musicians.
    • Developing green initiatives:
      • Online application and nomination process.
      • Save a tree and revise without guilt!  WordBRIDGE plants 10 trees in a national forest for every playwright that attends WordBRIDGE.  Each year, we plant trees for that year’s playwrights as well as for the playwrights from one year in our past.  When this project is completed, we will have planted over 1600 trees.
    • Creating over 30 unique developmental processes with writers from around the world,  including award winning plays such as George Brant’s GROUNDED, ANY OTHER NAME, MOURNER’S BENCH, and ELEPHANT’S GRAVEYARD, Krista Knight’s UN-HINGED (a silent opera), Will Fancher’s THE RIVER WAS WHISKEY (winner of the Lorraine Hansberry Award); and an English version of KITCHEN translated by playwright Maksym Kurochkin and John Freedman.
    • History
                    • Since 1994, WordBRIDGE has developed plays by 85 playwrights with the talents and support of more than 200 professional artists.
