The Beholder’s Share
Since October the Generous Company crew has been at work on a new piece responding to some of the latest writings and research into neurobiology: The Beholder’s Share. This work will be presented as part of Generous Company’s Gumbo January 31st to February 9th.
We have been gaining inspiration from Charlie Rose: The Brain Series and the work of Nobel Prize winning neurobiologist Dr. Eric Kandel. Dr. Kandel’s groundbreaking books In Search of Memory: The Emergence of a New Science of the Mind (2007) and The Age of Insight: The Quest to Understand the Unconscious in Art, Mind, and Brain, from Vienna 1900 to the Present (2012) present stunning new portraits of how the human brain creates memories and how the brain responds to art. Through these two books and The Brain Series, Kandel has extended an invitation from the field of neurobiology to the artists of the world and Generous Company is ready to respond.
Generous Company’s diverse company including specializations in mathematics, psychology, visual, multimedia, and performing arts will provoke the audience’s understanding of perception on an intellectual and biological level during an engaging evening of art and performance.
We will also be showcasing these responses via 20 new short plays written by playwright alumni of WordBRIDGE Playwrights Laboratory who are also responding to these ideas.
